Hey Ya! [1] is a song that was released in 2003 by the American duo Outkast, specifically André 3000. The song and music video received massive online which the song saying "Alright" multiple times and YouTube users replaying the quote in 2012 and the song has been lately used in the Shuba Duck memes in May 2021.

Origin

The song was wrote by André 3000 in 2000 and began working on it in 2002 and as released in 2003. The official music video was uploaded to YouTube on October 25th, 2009, which featured the Outkast band singing to the song on Live TV with audience. The official music video (shown below) [2] has garned over 548 million views in 12 years.



Spread

On July 24, 2012, YouTuber[3] freddylovejoy posted a video of the song saying "Alright" for 30 minutes. The video hit 5.0 million views in 8 years (shown below, left). On December 3rd, 2016, YouTuber[4] Conor Thacker posted the song but everytime the song said "uh" or "alright" it gets faster. The video hit 7.5 million views in 5 years (shown below, right).

Shuba Duck

The song has lately been used in the Shuba Duck memes that started in May 2021. On April 2nd, 2021, YouTuber[5] Rul3r of Wind posted a video setting the animation to "Hey Ya" by Outkast, garnering over a million views in a month (shown below). On April 14th, YouTuber[6] KaasToast posted a video consisting of only the duck dancing to the song, garnering over 77,000 views in a comparable span of time.
