Hope This Helps, commonly written Hope This Helps 👍 or Hope This Helps! refers to a catchphrase said sarcastically at the end of an answer to humorously demean someone's statement or question which is perceived as ignorant or near-sighted. The phrase gained viral usage on Twitter / X starting in the 2010s but it spread en masse in the early 2020s.
Origin
Currently, the earliest discovered viral post sarcastically using the phrase Hope This Helps was shared by X[1] user @mishacollins on September 16th, 2015, ahead of the 2016 U.S. Presidential Election aimed at Donald Trump. The tweet read, "I can't over-emphasize what a bad fit Presidency is, but there're opportunities. Hope this helps!" and attached a job search link. Over nine years, the tweet received over 5,400 likes (shown below).
Spread
In the following years, the memetic use of Hope This Helps continued on X. For instance, on December 13th, 2017, X[2] user @mattzarb tweeted about a conservative's solution to homelessness, ending the tweet with the catchphrase. Over seven years, the tweet received over 2,100 likes (shown below).
Viral usage continued and became more frequent in the 2020s. For instance, on December 28th, 2021, X[3] user @NiccoloAeed tweeted, "News keeps asking 'Should people feel bad just because of American history?' The answer is simply yes. When you learn about crimes against humanity you should feel bad. Hope this helps." The tweet amassed over 64,000 likes in three years (shown below).
On June 10th, 2023, X[4] user @Johnny2Cellos quote retweeted a post about the Gwen Stacy Is Trans Theory, writing, "She’s actually a cartoon character hope this helps." The quote gained over 132,000 likes in a year (shown below).
On October 11th, TikToker[5] Brittany Broski posted a video with text overlay reading, "I really hope this helps," in which she purposefully cut her audio when giving advice, gaining over 5.9 million plays and 1.1 million likes in a year (shown below).

On July 27th, 2024, TikToker[6] @ray_kenley posted a video about the catchphrase, gaining over 413,900 plays and 103,600 likes in four months (shown below).

Viral usage of Hope This Helps persisted online in late 2024. For instance, on October 28th, X[7] user @brndxix quoted a tweet that said, "New York is a swing state," captioning it, "Trees can't vote, I hope this helps." The quote amassed over 340,000 likes in nine days (shown below).
On November 5th, 2024, X[8] user @1lexycat tweeted, "Every time I see the phrase 'hope this helps' I get a little incel rage," receiving over 8,000 likes in a day (shown below).
