Hotdog Contest, also known as Glizzy Contest, is a minigame TikTok filter imitating a hot dog eating contest. In August 2022, the filter achieved virality on TikTok as users shared their high scores and found alternative ways to compete, such as by imitating fellatio.

Origin

Prior to August 5th, 2022, TikToker @mattryanx added Hotdog Contest,^[1] a minigame TikTok filter imitating a hot dog contest. The filter added an overlay with a running timer, during which a participating user must consume as many hot dogs as they can, normally by closing and opening their mouth. As the user "eats" more and more hot dogs, their cheeks bloat and their mouth gets covered in sauce.

On August 5th, TikToker^[2] florentinhotofficial posted the earliest found notable video utilizing the filter, which gained over 840,000 views and 24,300 likes in two months (shown below, left). On August 12th, 2022, TikToker^[3] @kimansheean posted a video that gained over 7.2 million views and 994,000 likes in one month (shown below, right).

Spread

In August 2022, more videos using the filter went viral on TikTok. For example, on August 14th, 2022, TikToker^[4] @sydwinnie posted a video that gained over 281,000 views and 55,500 likes in one month (shown below, left). On August 15th, TikToker^[5] @funnymac_ posted a video that received over 1.7 million views and 211,000 likes in a similar timeframe (shown below, right).

In the following weeks, several TikToks using the filter went viral as users found a way to "eat" hot dogs by imitating an oral sex act. For example, prior to September 6th, 2022, TikToker @emilianoong posted a Duet with another user in which they both imitated fellatio performed with different intensities. On September 6th, Twitter^[6] user @BeratStuff reuploaded the Duet, with the clip gaining over 272,000 views, 3,200 retweets and 26,000 likes in three weeks (shown below).
