Human Beings in a Mob, also known as What's A God To A Non-Believer, refers to a TikTok Photo Slideshows trend where people use lyrics from Kanye West and Jay-Z's song "No Church In The Wild" to rank characters or people from "human beings in a mob" to "non-believers." The trend began with anime and young adult fiction fan edit videos in June 2021 and continued into September 2022 when it began to be used to make parody character rankings using TikTok's "Photos" slideshow feature.

Origin

On May 29th, 2012, Kanye West's official YouTube^[1] account posted the music video to the track "No Church In The Wild." The upload has gathered over 100 million views in nearly 10 years (seen below).

On June 18th, 2021, TikToker^[2] @kiripimastan posted a fan edit of Fullmetal Alchemist set to Kanye West and Jay-Z's track "No Church In The Wild." The characters were assigned according to the lyrics, "Human beings in a mob, what's a mob to a King, what's a King to a God, what's a God to a non-believer?" The post gathered over 15,000 plays and 3,000 likes in a year and three months (seen below).

On September 18th, 2022, TikToker^[3] @itgirlmedha posted a "Photos" slideshow featuring the cast of the Fox sitcom New Girl, using the sound "No Church In The Wild".^[6] The slideshow ranked Jessica Day's (played by Zooey Deschanel) potential love interests, with Nick Miller being the "non-believer" (seen below). The post gathered over 300,000 plays and 70,000 likes in five days.

Also on September 19th, 2022, TikToker^[5] @naturelover2105 posted a character ranking for the characters from Family Guy. The post gathered over 120,000 plays and 17,000 likes in nearly four days (seen below).
