I Haven't Programmed This Path Yet is an image macro series originating featuring a screencap from the 2018 Black Mirror interactive film Bandersnatch. In late 2018, the series circulated on Reddit as a reaction image in jokes about unexpected developments.
Origin
On December 28th, 2018, Netflix[1] released a special interactive film in its Black Mirror series titled Bandersnatch.
In one scene of the film, main protagonist Stefan Butler (portrayed by Fionn Whitehead) demonstrates a pre-release version of his video game to a potential publisher. During the demonstration, he explains that one potential plot path in the game has not been yet programmed.
On December 29th, 2018, Redditor[2] Ramif_23 posted the screen capture of the scene along with a caption to /r/me_irl subreddit. The post gained over 2,800 upvotes within 17 days, while a repost[3] in /r/teenagers subreddit gained over 6,300 upvotes in two weeks.
Spread
On January 2nd, 2019, Redditor[4] suhailSea posted a reedited version of the meme using the same caption to /r/memes subreddit. The post received over 16,000 upvotes in 13 days; additionally, a repost[5] to /r/absolutelynotme_irl subreddit gained over 15,200 upvotes in the same period.
Following the initial posts, in early January 2019 more examples of the meme appeared in several subreddits, primarily in /r/memes[6] and /r/dankmemes[7].
