If Metro Boomin' Sampled X On "On Time" refers to a series of memes on TikTok where users remix Metro Boomin's song "On Time," which features a sample of Homelander, to replace his voice with a sample of another person or character from a movie or TV show. The trend became popularized on the platform in December 2022.
Origin
On December 2nd, 2022, Metro Boomin' released his song "On Time" featuring John Legend. In the song, Metro Boomin' samples a speech by Homelander, a character from The Boys (shown below). The sample was widely shared and celebrated online.[1] It was shared on TikTok[2] on that day, garnering over 4 million views in two weeks.
It is unclear who first changed the sample for "On Time" on TikTok. On December 10th, multiple TikTokers uploaded videos with variations of the caption "what if Metro Boomin' sampled X," "X" being another character or person. For example, on that day, TikToker[3] @jessippi posted a version with Green Goblin from Spider-Man: No Way Home and TikToker[4] @cjax525 posted one using a clip from The Punisher, garnering over 430,000 views and 165,000 views respectively in six days (shown below, left and right).

On December 12th, 2022 TikToker[5] @yimmytimm posted a version replacing the sample with Conor McGregor, garnering over 496,000 views in four days (shown below). On the same day, Twitter[6] user @MRCRUZX1 called it their favorite trend on TikTok.
