Part of a series on Eiffel 65 - I'm Blue. [View Related Entries]

About

"I'm Good" is a song by DJ David Guetta and vocalist Bebe Rexha that was popularized in the latter half of 2022. The song is notable for sampling the melody of "Blue" by Eiffel 65 and became an award-nominated hit. However, the song was received poorly by critics, ending on several critics' end-of-year "Worst Songs of 2022" lists. In early 2023, the song became the subject of debate and jokes as people argued over the song's quality, notably on TikTok.

Origin

David Guetta premiered his remix of "Blue" titled "I'm Good," a collaboration with Bebe Rexha, during his 2017 Miami Ultra Music Festival set. The set was uploaded to YouTube on March 28th, 2017, where it gained over 12 million views in nearly six years.

The song began growing popular on TikTok in the first half of 2022. While it's unclear when it was first released on the platform, TikToks featuring the song appear months before the song's official August 2022 release. For example, on April 24th, TikToker @nat_runs_ posted the song in a video that gained over 2.3 million likes in eight months.

On August 26th, 2022, the song was officially released. Its music video gained over 88 million views on YouTube in just over four months (shown below).

Spread

The song grew into a hit, peaking at No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100.[1] However, several critics called it one of the worst songs of 2022 at the end of the year. BuzzFeed[2] named it one of the worst songs of the year, as did Anthony Fantano and Todd In The Shadows (shown below).

On January 3rd, 2023, Twitter user @magdalenepop[3] defended the song, asking why people "don't like to have fun."

The tweet sparked discourse, racking up over 6,200 quote-tweets in three days. Many people used the tweet as a jumping-off point to make memes and jokes about the song. For example, user @moonmistblue[4] posted a Hello, Human Resources?! meme comparing the song to "Blue," gaining over 5,100 retweets and 30,000 likes in one day (shown below, left). User @LRonMexico[5] joked that the track was a "dog song," meaning a song you change the lyrics to to make them about your dog, gaining over 670 retweets and 13,000 likes (shown below, right).

in reply to Rhettorical

on the one hand, i get it. I'm tired of negative content too. going on and on about how much things suck only makes everyone miserable.
on the other hand, let's not coddle the extremely rich and famous here. this is a lazy song by lazy artists looking to cash a quick check through nostalgia bait. at least you could tell the eiffel 65 guys were passionate about the shitty song they wrote. this is that but with none of the earnestness.
