It's Not That Hot, Just Eat, also known as Eat Your Food, It's Not That Hot, refers to a series of memes in which sexually appealing fan art and other imagery metaphorically represents the hotness of food. The format gained significant spread in /r/animemes community in early June 2019.
Origin
Before May 31st, 2019, an unknown user posted an image of a lava-filled cauldron from Minecraft captioned "Parents: It's not that hot, just eat / The food:" (shown below). On May 31st, the image was reposted by several accounts, including reposts by Instagram user empanycal[1] (233 likes in two weeks) and iFunny user represent (31 likes in two weeks).[2]
Spread
On June 2nd, 2019, Redditor majkelmichel posted a fan art of character Mai Sakurajima from Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai anime series paired with the caption to /r/animemes subreddit (shown below).[3] The post gained over 6,900 upvotes in twelve days.
In the following days, multiple posts containing images of various anime characters paired with the caption were posted in /r/animemes subreddit, with the posts implying that the offered food is as hot as the characters in the attached images. Additionally, parody posts in featuring characters considered attractive were posted in /r/animemes, /r/dankmemes and other subreddits. For example, on June 3rd, 2019, Redditor Dumb_Foxy posted an image of Shrek paired with the caption which gained over 28,800 upvotes in ten days.[4]
