About

"It's Time For Some Game Theory" refers to a series of tweets mocking a long Twitter thread analyzing Russia's influence in the 2016 United States Presidential Election by "strategic analyst" Eric Garland that begins "Guys, it's time for some game theory."

Origin

On December 11th, 2016, Garland began a 120-tweet long thread[1] explaining Russian election interference while tying in many different factors, including 9/11, Bill Clinton, Edward Snowden, and Chelsea Manning. The first tweet has gained over 5,300 retweets and 10,000 likes as of December 13th, 2016.

Spread

Over the next few days Garland's thread and those who shared his thread drew mockery from those who found its premise to be fantastical and the introductory "it's time for some game theory" phrase laughable. It inspired a series of jokes that used "it's time for some game theory" as a punchline and a series of jokes that began "it's time for some game theory" then went on to offer theories about video games games. The spread of the jokes was covered by The Daily Dot.[2] Garland's thread also inspired a Gizmodo post[3] which asked for men to stop "manthreading," a practice defined as men of Twitter using long threads to explain unimportant concepts.
