Jellyfish Jam refers to a scene from the animated children's show SpongeBob SquarePants where SpongeBob and a jellyfish are shown to be dancing to an electronic song titled "Stadium Rave" by Mark Govener. The scene became a popular subject of remixes on the internet, with YouTubers making covers of the song and inserting different memes into the scene.

Origin

On August 28th, 1999, season one, episode 7B of SpongeBob SquarePants entitled "Jellyfish Jam" premiered in the US[1]. In the episode, SpongeBob decides to bring a wild jellyfish home and shows it off to Squidward before going home to have fun with it. When Squidward asks how one could have fun with a jellyfish, the scene cuts to a sequence depicting SpongeBob and the jellyfish dancing to the song "Stadium Rave" by Mark Govener (scene shown below).

September 24, 2008, YouTube[2] user RobnJake uploaded one of the earliest known remakes of the scene, using LEGO blocks to reenact it. The video received more than 3.3 million views in 14 years (shown below).

Various edits and remixes based on the scene have been shared on the internet in subsequent years. On October 26th, 2011, YouTuber[3] ran510 uploaded a 4-hour version of the song, gathering over 6.8 million views in eleven years (shown below, left). On July 23rd, 2015, YouTuber[4] Garbo uploaded a bass-boosted version of the song, gathering over 2.2 million views in eight years (shown below, left).

On August 4th, 2020, YouTuber[5] Fangs Up uploaded a remix of the Carson Shearer's Dance meme to make it appear as though he was in the Jellyfish Jam scene. The video received more than 178,000 views in three years (shown below, left). On September 5th, 2022, YouTube[6] user músicos Cínicos 鯉 uploaded a 64-bit version of the song, gathering over 833,000 views in eleven months (shown below, right).
