About

Joe Biden Draw a Clock Emoji / ✍️⏰ is an emoji-based copypasta used to express the desire to have Democratic presidential candidate former Vice President Joe Biden draw a clock on national television. Drawing a clock has been used as a test in neurology to examine one's cognitive abilities, particularly in cases of Alzheimer's Disease and dementia. Some critics of Biden's believe he exhibits traits associated with one in mental decline and the emojis signal that they would like him to prove his faculties in public.

Origin

The clock-drawing test was first developed in the early-1900s to evaluate soldiers for headwounds. According to Science Direct,[1] these injuries "often caused subsequent difficulty composing images correctly with the appropriate number of parts of the correct size and orientation (i.e., constructional apraxia). To correctly depict a clock, patients must be able to follow directions, comprehend language, visualize the proper orientation of an object, and execute normal movements, all tasks that may be disturbed in dementia" (examples below).

Won’t they do that again? That’s your plan" (shown below, left). On March 7th, Twitter[3] user @dontkauf replied to a tweet by Biden with the emojis (shown below, right).

The emoji has also been used in the Twitter names of Biden critics.

On March 9th, 2020, The Daily Dot [6] published a report on the use of the emoji. They wrote:

According to the test, patients with dementia and Alzheimer’s struggle to properly record time on the clock face. While not proof of anything, a poorly drawn clock can be a reason to further test a patient.

Hence, the repeated clock and hands with pencils tweeted at Biden. They’d like to see him show he’s mentally fit for office.

It’s a question that’s been raised repeatedly in the past year of Democratic debates, where Biden has struggled to finish his thoughts, but the debate was ramped up this week when a 2016 clip of Biden supporting Sanders started to go viral.
