Joe Biden's Dropout Letter Parodies refers to a series of parodies and memes based on United States President Joe Biden's letter announcing that he's dropping out of the 2024 U.S. presidential election and endorsing his Vice President Kamala Harris. Multiple recaptions and other parodies of the letter went viral on social media in late July 2024.
Origin
On July 21st, 2024, United States President Joe Biden announced that he was dropping out of the 2024 presidential election, with the official letter signed by Biden posted on his social media accounts.[1][2]
Spread
Starting on July 21st, 2024, users on X / Twitter and Reddit posted parodies of the letter, recaptioning it or editing it in other ways for humorous effect. For example, on July 21st, X[3] user @ruraljurormovie posted a parody in which the main body of text was replaced with, "I'm sorry. I can't. Don't hate me." The parody (shown below) received over 250 reposts and 4,700 likes in one day.
Several parodies of the letter went viral over the following days. For example, on July 21st, 2024, X[4] user @glamriarock posted a recaption reading, "The One Piece Is Real," which received over 6,300 reposts and 43,000 likes in one day (shown below, left). Later that day, the X[5] account @operagxofficial posted an edit that referenced memes about the lack of news surrounding Hollow Knight: Silksong that gained over 2,700 reposts and 35,000 likes in one day (shown below, right).
