John Cena The Doctor of Thuganomics Entrance, also known as John Cena Rapper Entrance, is a reaction GIF depicting WWE wrestler John Cena entering an arena through the backstage while rapping and wearing a chain and padlock around his neck. The GIF is typically used as a reaction to humorous captions above as a way to express sarcastic badassness or edginess.

The clip used in the GIF appears in WWE Title No. 1 Contender's Tournament: SmackDown, from April 10th, 2003, when The Undertaker was pitted against John Cena. During this era in wrestling, John Cena was currently performing under his title “The Doctor of Thuganomics” that included a gimmick with him dressed as a rapper who freestyled during his entrances. In the video (seen below) John Cena is shown entering the arena through the backstage while performing his gimmick/character and the particular part the GIF is pulled from occurs right around the 0:05 mark.

The original GIF (shown below) comes from an upload by user TheNextBlGThing on October 17th, 2018, to Tenor.[1]

After the GIF was uploaded to Tenor, it appeared on various social media posts, websites and other platforms, usually as a reaction. One such example was uploaded to Twitter[2] on April 23rd, 2019, by user iamKokoD as a reply to a tweet from John Cena himself. The reply (shown below) was liked 59 times and retweeted five times.

On September 13th, 2019, Twitter[3] user Dham0624 used the GIF on their feed. Tweeted under the caption, “John Cena walking onto the set of THE SUICIDE SQUAD,” the tweet (seen below) received 561 likes and 135 retweets.

Twitter[4] user TheBlkCaptain also used the GIF as a reply to a tweet on March 5th, 2020, discussing John Cena’s song “The Time is Now.” The tweet (shown below), which included the lyric “I set your soul straight, I brush your mouth like Colgate” received 903 likes and 113 retweets.

In 2020, the GIF began to see a surge on Reddit as several Redditors posted it alongside captions with a more traditional meme format, especially on the r/dankmemes subreddit. One such post came from Redditor[5] mijuzz7 on March 29th, 2020, under the title “Welcome to downtown coolsville.” The meme (seen below) was upvoted nearly 27,000 times and commented on almost 200 times.
