John Wall Looks Like refers to jokes made about a picture of basketball player John Wall posing for his Team USA photo. After the image was posted by the Twitter account of Wall's NBA team, the Washington Wizards, the picture was roasted by users who thought Wall looked awkward and was forcing a smile.

Origin

On July 26th, the Washington Wizards tweeted an image of John Wall posing for the USA national basketball team (shown below).^[1] After the negative feedback to the picture, they deleted the tweet.

Spread

After the picture was posted to Twitter, many joked about the apparent awkwardness to Wall's pose. User @martinrickman tweeted that Wall "looks how 2018 feels," gaining over 3,300 retweets and 9,000 likes (shown below, left). User @cjzero joked that Wall looked like he was coming off a long period of drinking and gambling, gaining over 1,100 retweets and and 4,000 likes (shown below, right).

Other Twitter users photoshopped the picture into other famous images. For example, user @KofieYeboah inserted inserted Wall into "American Gothic," gaining over 700 retweets and 2,300 likes (shown below, left). Wall was quoted as saying that when his mom saw the pic, she said it looked like he went to jail (shown below, right). The jokes were covered by several news publications, including Twitter Moments,^[2] CBS Sports,^[1] and the Charlotte Observer.^[3]
