About

José Luis is the name of a puppy or dog with squinted eyes (likely a golden retriever or labrador). The character was nicknamed José Luis following multiple Instagram memes in early 2023 that named him so and humorously compared him to his imagined rival Jotchua. José Luis was portrayed as a villain in image macro memes that used him as an exploitable.

It is currently unknown where the original image of José Luis was posted, however, the first discovered meme to use the image was posted by the Spanish-speaking Facebook[1] page Cheems interpretando diferentes canciones XD on November 22nd, 2022. The meme had text overlay reading, "ya we dame mis lentes," which translates in English to, "ya we give me my glasses."
