About

July Slander TikTok Slideshows refers to a series of TikTok photo slideshow memes in which the slideshows assign an animal or other subject to the viewer depending on their birth month, with the July animal being far less desirable than the one assigned to all other months. The trend was popularized on TikTok in late December 2023 and early January 2024, inspiring reaction videos to the slideshows.

Origin

On TikTok, "your birth month" slideshows are slideshow posts which assign an image of something, often an animal, house, liminal space, etc., to viewers depending on their birth month. One of the earliest examples of notable backlash to a "your birth month" slideshow's July entry is a post by TikToker[1] @amaaizing on August 15th, 2023, featuring a dilapidated house for July. The top two comments, made that same month, read, "What's wrong with May and July??? I feel attacked," and "Bros got beef with May and July," garnering thousands of likes each. This video, however, which garnered over 80,000 views in five months, may only be coincidentally attached to the trend.

While it's unconfirmed who started the July slander trend, it was popularized on December 30th, 2023 and seemingly started by user @aidandamiano1. On that day, the TikToker[2] posted a slideshow assigning a baby hippo to viewers, writing in the description, "There's no deeper meaning to this." In the slideshow, each hippo shown is cute until July, when two undesirable depictions of hippos are shown (shown below). The video gained over 310,000 views in a week.

In the comments, some speculate that an ex-girlfriend of his was born in July, suggesting this is why he slanders July in the slideshow.

That day, other TikTokers began creating their own "your birth month" slideshows slandering the month of July. For example, that day, TikToker[3][4] @aibattlestories posted two videos following the trend, offering viewers their "magical companions" and "mashed potatoes," garnering over 400,000 views and 8 million views respectively in a week (Julyt images shown below, left and right). It is possible this account started the trend and not @aidandamiano1.

Spread

TikTokers @aidanmiano1 and @aibattlestories, among others, continued to post July slander slideshows over the following days, including a December 31st, 2023 post to TikTok[5][6] by @aidanmiano1 that gained over 1.4 million views in a week and a January 2nd, 2024 upload that gained over 5.5 million views in three days.

That day, TikToker[7] @lemn.cat posted a British cop screaming meme about the trend, garnering over 212,000 views in three days (shown below, left). On January 3rd, TikToker[8] @defonotemmyy posted a video recording several July slander slideshows, garnering over 200,000 views in two days (shown below, left).
