Just a Chill Girl is a variation of the Just a Chill Guy meme using the identical anthropomorphic dog character but with long hair, a bow or other defining feminine features. The meme began in late November 2024 during a resurgence in the virality of the Chill Guy meme on TikTok and X, resulting in numerous memes about being a "chill girl" spreading online that used the character as an exploitable alongside captions. Similar to Chill Guy, the meme also inspired a meme coin, called CHILLGIRL.

Origin

On November 17th, 2024, TikToker^[1] @stopscrolling_22 posted a version of the Just a Chill Guy meme featuring a version of the character with long hair, captioned, "when you've been spamming her all day with chill guy memes but she doesn't even get mad cuz she's lowkey a chill guy too," garnering over 6.3 million views in three days. Although the meme does not use the phrase "chill girl," it is the earliest known version to use a female version of the Chill Guy character.

CHILLGIRL Meme Coin

On November 17th, 2024, shortly after the original meme was posted, the CHILLGIRL meme coin was launched on pump.fun,^[2] earning a market cap of over $280,000 in three days. The coin's X^[3] account, @ChillGirlCTO, posted a "just a chill girl" meme that day, garnering around 25 likes in three days, possibly marking the first instance of the meme to use the exact phrase "just a chill girl."

Spread

The meme continued to spread on both TikTok and X over the following days. For example, on November 18th, 2024, TikToker^[4] @ katrjina posted a meme using the phrase "just a chill girl" that garnered over 3.8 million views in two days.

On November 19th, X^[5] user @riaassain posted a drawing of a Just a Chill Girl character, which is notably used as the logo for the meme coin, writing, "Just a chill girl fr," garnering over 7,700 likes and 4,500 reposts in a day. On the same day, TikToker^[6] @dwboutitho3 posted a version of the meme that gained over 1.7 million views in a day.

The post by X user @riaassain inspired several notable quote-reposts, some complaining about girls "taking" the meme from boys. On November 19th, X^[7] user @chashyams posted, "what happened to being just a girl. now they wanna chill too. no thx," garnering over 59,000 likes in a day.

Also on November 19th, 2024, TikToker^[8] @trayyynu posted a version of the chill guy meme reading, "When I'm peeping the girls tryna steal our 'chill guy' meme and I really wanna crash out but I got to remember I'm just a chill guy fr and I'm gonna out chill these girls," garnering over 1.6 million views in a day. On the same day, X^[9] user @upblissed posted, "oh brother men cant have SHIT," garnering over 240,000 likes in a day.

Just a Chill Guy, also known as My New Character or the Chill Guy meme, is a meme focused on a character called, "my new character" who's a light brown dog with a human body, wearing a grey sweater, blue jeans and red shoes. In the drawing, the character is smirking at the viewer with his hands in his pockets. The drawing was originally shared in a tweet by Twitter / X user philb (@PhillipBankss) in late 2023, paired with the caption, My New Character. His Whole Deal Is He’s a Chill Guy That Lowkey Doesn’t Give a Fuck. By November 2024, the "I'm Just a Chill Guy" snowclone regained virality on TikTok via photo slideshows. A Chill Guy meme coin also went viral in November 2024, on the cryptocurrency site Pump.fun. Amid its virality that month, a feminine spin-off version called Just a Chill Girl also emerged online.
