On April 5th, 2024, the X^[1] account @sportingnews tweeted a video of American basketball player Kelsey Plum sitting courtside while eating popcorn. She's seen oddly eating the popcorn, seemingly joking with the person she's sitting with. Over two days, the video received roughly 69.6 million views and 8,600 likes (shown below).

After the video's upload, X users started to quote it with jokes at Plum's expense. For instance, the earliest viral quote was posted by X^[2] user @NDTalksBall on April 5th, 2024, who said, "White women humour," gaining over 201,000 likes in two days (shown below, left).

Also on April 5th, X^[3] user @Zvbear tweeted a different take following the "white woman" premise, writing, "White Women humor is so wholesome and almost childish… I almost want to shed a tear," receiving over 3,500 likes in two days (shown below, right).
