Knocked-Out Conor McGregor refers to an image of UFC fighter Conor McGregor lying near the fence of the octagon after being knocked out by his opponent Dustin Poirier. The image of McGregor, his position resembling that of a sleeping person, received viral spread online, being used as a reaction image and an exploitable.

Origin

On January 24th, 2021, during UFC 257 mixed martial arts event, American fighter Dustin Poirier knocked out[1][2] Irish fighter and former UFC Featherweight and Lightweight champion Conor McGregor.

Four minutes after McGregor was knocked out, Twitter[3] user @freethedrip posted the earliest found joke based on the event, writing "went thru her likes" and posting the image of knocked-out McGregor (shown below). The tweet received over 17,100 retweets and 121,700 likes in two days.

Within hours after the fight, multiple users on Twitter and other social media posted memes based on the image of knocked-out McGregor, using it both as a reaction and an exploitable. For example, on January 24th, Twitter[4] user @Kofie posted a Netflix meme that received over 28,800 retweets and 168,600 likes in two days (shown below, left), with an Instagram[5] repost by daquan gaining additional 389,000 likes. A Bernie Sanders in a Chair meme posted[6] by @SaeedDiCaprio received over 940 retweets and 69,000 likes in two days (shown below, right).

On January 24th, Internet personality Jake Paul posted an Instagram[10] video reacting to Conor McGregor's loss, reducing his 50 million dollar offer for a fight between McGregor and himself to 10,000 dollars.

The format become a meme globally, with both English-language media and media in other countries reporting on it.[7][8][9]
