Latinas or Latinas 😍😍 refers to an image macro and reaction image of three Latina women holding hands with their backs to the camera and the Snapchat caption "Latinas," followed by one or two heart-eyes emojis. The meme gained popularity in December 2021 as a way to express appreciation (sometimes ironically) for Latin American culture, similar to the "Gracias a dios nací en Latinoamerica" meme.

Origin

On March 16th, 2021, Reddit^[1] user /u/WOJAK_DOWN12 posted the image of three girls holding hands with their backs to the camera on the /r/GaloGang subreddit channel. The post has the caption "Latinas 😍😍" overlayed in the picture. The post received 29 upvotes in two years (seen below).

Spread

A few months later, in December 2021, the picture started to appear as a reaction image on Twitter.^[2] For instance, user @g0rissima recreated the girl's pose with her friends on December 19th, 2021, receiving 875 likes and 33 retweets in two years (seen below).

The image is often used as a response to any content that can be related to Latin American culture. For example, on March 2nd, 2023, Twitter^[3] user @cadeIinhadalana posted an image of the singers Lana Del Rey and Rosalía alongside the "Latinas" reaction image. Both singers are mocked on social media by fans and non-fans for Latina stereotypes that are sometimes embodied in their work. The tweet received 975 likes and 134 retweets in a month (seen below).
