About

Letter to Murderous Santa is a series of exploitable based on a four-panel webcomic featuring Santa Claus reading a child's note, which makes Santa so angry that he holds a gun to the child's head. Online, people photoshop the note to express the meme's author's opinion.

Origin

On December 19th, 2018, Facebook [1] user and comics artist spaceboycantlol posted the original comic, which shows Santa reading a note that reads, "I want a gender-neutral Santa for Christmas." The post received more than 120 reaction and 24 shares in five days (shown below).

The following day, on December 20th, Redditor [2] Danny-DevitoTrashMan posted a version of the comic in the /r/memes subreddit. In this version, the letter reads, "I wish the upvote button was removed because if I genuinely enjoy a post I still don't upvote it." The post received more than 19,000 points (91% upvoted) and 75 comments in four days (shown below, left).

Over the next several days, more users on Reddit began posting versions of the comic that change the note (examples below, center and right).

Imagine if you have been doing a job you're good at for many many years and then someone says "You know, I don't like you because you have the wrong skin color/biological sex/gender identity. I think you should be replaced."

Now, I'm not saying that I would fly into a murderous rage or anything, but at the very least, I would be a bit miffed. After all, shouldn't what matter be if you can perform the job correctly, not if you look or "self-identify" a certain way?
