Lil Tay's "SUCKER 4 GREEN" is a song and music video released by the Instagram personality and rapper Lil Tay (real name Claire Hope) in late September 2023. The single was notably the first piece of content Tay shared online after the viral Lil Tay Death Hoax incident the month prior. Upon release, "SUCKER 4 GREEN" quickly inspired a series of jokes, memes and online discourse about the song and its video, with some accusing her of using the death hoax as a PR stunt to promote new music.

Origin

On September 30th, 2023, Lil Tay released the music video for her song "SUCKER 4 GREEN" on YouTube. [1] The video features Tay flaunting her ostentatious lifestyle, particularly her penchant for expensive cars. Her mother, Angela Tian, and older brother, Jason Tian, also appear in the music video, sharing the frame with the young rapper in a luxury car. Within 24 hours, the video (shown below) received more than 1.3 million views and 67,000 likes.

That day, a clip from Lil Tay's music video was shared on X[2] by the publication Dexerto.[2] The post (shown below) received more than 23 million views and 62,000 likes in 24 hours.


Additionally, TikTok users also reacted to the rapper's return to social media as the video went viral. For instance, on September 30th, 2023, TIkTok[3] user @cloutynaz posted a video reacting to Tay's music video. The post (shown below, left) amassed more than 1.6 million plays and 79,000 likes in 24 hours.

On the same day, TikTok[4] user @kappasig uploaded a fan edit video showing the singer explaining her death hoax incident and part of the music video (shown below, right), amassing over 739,000 plays and 164,000 likes in 24 hours.
