Lost In a Cave But the WiFi Is Amazing or The Further I Go Down, the Better the WiFi Gets is a viral X / Twitter post by user @pukicho in which they claim to be trapped in a cave with amazing WiFi, claiming that the further down in the cave he goes, the better the WiFi gets. The post was made in March 2024 and went viral that month, inspiring numerous reposts, referential memes and theories on why the WiFi might get better the further they go into the cave.

Origin

On March 18th, 2024, X[1][2] user @pukicho posted, "I'm lost in a cave, I've been hiking for an hour and I'm lost, but the wifi is amazing," garnering over 8,300 likes in two days. Later that day the user quote-reposted their post with a photo purportedly showing themselves lost in the cave holding a phone with a WiFi tester open reading "1.3Gbps" WiFi speed, writing, "HOLY SHIT the further I go down the better the wifi gets. 1.3Gbps," garnering over 139,000 likes and 8,600 reposts in two days (shown below).

On March 19th, the user recreated the posts on his Tumblr[3] page, garnering over 7,500 notes in a day.

The post was screenshotted and gained viral spread on social media, being reposted to several subreddits. For example, on March 19th, 2024, Redditor u/TheWebsploiter reposted it to /r/shitposting,[4] garnering over 27,000 upvotes in a day. One of the top comments under the post, written by u/Iamexist_real,[5] is a joking theory about why the WiFi might get stronger, writing in part, "This is the mystery wifi cave, found back in 1927 by Winston E. Interweb," garnering over 4,400 upvotes in the same span of time (full comment shown below).

It's a very unknown place that has basically been lost to time, but I guess it was rediscovered.

Later that day, the meme was reposted to the subreddit /r/ExplainTheJoke,[6] garnering over 5,300 upvotes in a day. The top comment for the post, written by u/MarcusofMenace,[7] offers a theory connecting the post to the SCP Foundation, writing, "New scp just dropped. Lures people in with good WiFi and they become too captivated by their phone to realise that they've been there for days and starve to death," garnering over 1,100 upvotes in a day (shown below).

Also on March 19th, 2024, a meme was posted to America's Best Pics[8] referencing the post (shown below). The meme was reposted to /r/ExplainTheJoke[9] that same day, garnering over 3,700 upvotes in a day.

The original post was also shared on /r/schizoposters[10] that day, garnering over 900 upvotes in a day. On March 20th it was posted to /r/piracy[11] with the title "If you need me I’ll be torrenting in a cave," garnering over 3,600 upvotes in under a day.
