About

Sophie Cunningham Pointing or the WNBA Pointing Meme is a viral video and reaction meme of WNBA player Sophie Cunningham of the Indiana Fever pointing with her finger for an extended period of time at DeWanna Bonner, a player on the opposing team, after a physical incident with Fever player Caitlin Clark.

The game took place on June 22nd, 2026, and the video became the subject of memes over the following days. It was especially popularized on X / Twitter starting on June 24th, 2026, after X user @JerryWatkins22 posted a video of Cunningham pointing, inspiring a wave of memes that use the point to represent someone calling another person out for bad, lazy or unacceptable behavior, among other uses.

Origin

On June 22nd, 2026, the Indiana Fever played against the Phoenix Mercury in a WNBA game. The Fever won 86-77.

At one point in the game, Sophie Cunningham pointed at DeWanna Bonner and followed her around the court, refusing to break eye contact, after Bonner purportedly got into a physical altercation with Fever player Caitlin Clark, for which Clark was given a technical foul.[1][2]

The point went viral in the days after the game aired. For example, on June 23rd, 2026, X[3] user @JerryWatkins22 posted a clip of a forward-facing angle of Cunningham pointing, gaining over 3,200 likes, 600 reposts and 31.6 million views in six days.

@bonsaisports Sophie on her viral pointing meme: She asked why only CC got a tech and not DB… who didn’t like being pointed. Sophie said “oh you shouldn’t have said that” & continued to silently point at her. “I think it’s dumb. But it was pissing her off, and I couldn’t help myself” 😭😭😭 #Funny #sophiecunningham #fyp #viral #WNBA ♬ suara asli – Mentahan _sound

Sophie Cunningham's Response To Meme

On June 27th, 2026, WNBA player and Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham then discussed her meme and viral moment on her podcast Show Me Something, as well as explaining her reaction to it:

So, what happened is, [DeWanna Bonner] is the one that did something extra, and then Caitlin got the tech. So I walked out there, and I was literally talking to the ref. I was like, "Now, Caitlin got one, but why didn't [Bonner] get one?" Because if Caitlin is gonna get one, then she should have got one. It shouldn't have been one or the other. And I was just kind of pointing, and [Bonner] like, "Don't you point at me!" And I was like, "Oh, shouldn't have said that. And I didn't say a word. So stupid! Like, that is the stupidest thing I've ever done. I'm telling you, everyone's like, "That is so dumb." I think it was so dumb. But it was pissing her off, and I couldn't help myself. I could not. She was losing her shit, and all I was doing was literally pointing."

The episode was uploaded to her podcast's YouTube[8] channel that day, garnering over 180,100 views, 8,400 likes and 2,000 comments in two days.
