Lost Nerf Darts refers to a series of memes parodying the widespread notion that a darts shot from Nerf toy weapons are difficult to find and recover. Memes based on the joke gained notable spread on Reddit in mid-August 2019.
Origin
On August 15th, 2019, Redditor divyaaaaaaaaaam posted a meme about not being able to find and collect shot Nerf darts using Nileseyy Niles Disappears format. [1] The post received over 79,700 upvotes in four days (shown below).
Spread
On the following day, Redditors JohnDon928[2] and Merlijntouw[3] posted more memes exploiting the joke, with the posts receiving over 46,400 and 75,200 upvotes in three days.
In the following days, the joke has been used in multiple memes posted on Reddit, primarily in /r/dankmemes and /r/memes subreddits.
