Make Sure It's On Low is a skit video in which the American magician Hagerman the Wizard pretends to be electrocuted by a 2 million volt discharge to the head from a Tesla coil. The clip, which features the magician saying the phrase "make sure it's on low," was originally posted on YouTube in August 2020 but resurfaced as a viral sound on TikTok in early January 2024, being used for comedy skits where people pretend to be electrocuted or hit by some bad habits like "the years of Ibuprofen kicking years later."

Origin

On August 13th, 2020, American magician Hagerman the Wizard posted a video on YouTube[1] titled "Science presenter takes 2 MILLION volt discharge to head from Tesla coil." The skit features him asking a female assistant to "make sure it's on low," referencing the machine being deactivated. However, he is hit with an electric volt discharge (shown below), amassing more than 29,000 views and 547 likes in four years.

On December 19th, 2021, TikTok[2] user @triadhawk posted Hagerman's clip (shown below, left), amassing over 1.9 million likes and inspiring more than 100,000 people to use the content as a viral sound on the platform. For example, on January 17th, 2024, TikTok[3] user @xenoicxavier posted a video using the sound to represent him "when the 3 hours of sleep finally up to you." The video (shown below, right) garnered roughly 16 million plays and 3 million likes in two weeks.

The soundbite also became popularly used in content related to cramps and recreational drug use like painkillers. For instance, on January 24th, 2024, TikTok[4] user @jessrodenz posted a video using the sound to represent her cramps pain (shown below, left), which garnered over 25 million plays and 4 million likes in a week. On January 25th, 2024, TikTok[5] user @mysmrgla posted a skit paired with the overlay text "Me in 10 years when all the Ibuprofen I use for period cramps every month finally catch up to me." The video (shown below, right) amassed more than 12 million plays and 1.6 million likes in a week.
