Material Gworl is the colloquial name given to the 2020 song "Material Girl" by rapper Saucy Santana, due to the way Saucy Santana pronounces the word "girl" in the song. In late 2021 and early 2022, a bass-boosted remix of the song became a prevalent sound on TikTok where users paired it with sketches that either brag about themselves or make self-deprecating jokes.

On January 15th, 2020, American rapper Saucy Santana released his song "Material Girl." The official music video of the song, uploaded to Saucy Santana's YouTube channel the day of its release, gained over 4 million views in two years (shown below).


Nearly two years later, the song was popularized on TikTok as an original sound. For example, on October 17th, 2021, TikToker chantling posted some pictures of herself looking fashionable with the track, gaining over 71,000 likes in three months (shown below).

On October 24th, 2021, TikToker azrielwintour uploaded a clip with a bass-boosted remix of the song to the platform as an original sound, gaining over 143,000 likes in three months (shown below).

The bass-boosted remix went on to become far more prevalent on TikTok as users paired the sound with sketches where they either brag about themselves or make self-deprecating jokes. For example, on November 21st, 2021, user jaziequ posted a sketch about her buying lights to mimic well-known TikTokers, gaining over 5.1 million likes in roughly two months (shown below, left). On January 1st, 2022, TikToker squadity used the sound to brag about "finessing old men" for enough money to buy an apartment, gaining over 2 million likes in two weeks (shown below, right). As of January 18th, 2022, over 606,000 videos have been made using the bass-boosted remix of the song on TikTok.[1]
