The jacket quickly drew criticism for its message, as it was interpreted as potentially representing Trump's feelings regarding the ongoing controversy. A spokeswoman for the first lady responded by saying, "It's a jacket. There was no hidden message. After today's important visit to Texas, I hope this isn't what the media is going to choose to focus on."[3]

Twitter user @TheLincoln tweeted, "I agree that there is no 'hidden message' when the message is PAINTED IN GIANT LETTERS ON THE BACK FOR EVERYONE TO READ." T.I.'s Album Teaser

On October 12th, 2018, rapper T.I. posted a NSFW teaser video for his album Dime Trap.[8] In the video, T.I. sits in the Oval Office while a Melania Trump lookalike, actress Melanie Marden, strips out of the "I Really Don't Care, Do U?" jacket. The media isn't claiming she wore it to the event. It straight up says that she wore it boarding the plane. There is nothing "fake news" about it. Time, place, and context matters. She probably didn't mean anything by it, but how can someone be so clueless?

Imagine right before giving a speech at a BLM protest, you wore a shirt that said, "Cotton picking is awesome!".

Or if Trump ever wore a shirt that said, "I <3 Russia", even in his free time. Or what if Obama wore a shirt that said, "Fuck the US" while he was golfing?

People of state don't have the same luxuries as citizens do. They represent our country and its people, at all times. What they say and how they dress matters. At all times.

And wearing a "lol idc" coat at any point, especially before a big event is just plain braindead.

Whether or not it was at the event changes nothing.

Even if Melania didnā€™t mean anything by it. Sheā€™s gotta admit that that jacket for the event she was wearing it for is unbelievably tone-deaf.

I honestly donā€™t buy the ā€œit means nothingā€. Maybe because I still have faith in the system underneath all my cynicism towards US politics (it shares an equal place in my heart for politics of all nations in general) I mean sheā€™s the First Lady, of course sheā€™s gonna be photographed. And sheā€™s going to a meeting that has been widely discussed.

Did anyone around her think she was just gonna get away with wearing words in 2018 America?

Is anyone thinking at all? Because of course people would notice!

I say yes, and say itā€™s staged to divert attention from more important topics. because I wanna have faith in the system.
