#MelaniaLovesTrudeau is hashtag cataloging a series of jokes about First Lady of the United States Melania Trump's supposed romantic interest in Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. The hashtag is frequently accompanied by a photograph of Melania about to kiss Trudeau.

Origin

On August 25th, 2019, Reuters^[1] photographer Carlos Barria published a photograph of Melania Trump, U.S. President Donald Trump and Trudeau (shown below, left). They wrote of the photograph, "First Lady Melania Trump kisses Canada's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau next to the U.S. President Donald Trump during the family photo with invited guests at the G7 summit in Biarritz, France, August 25, 2019."

That day, Twitter ^[2] user @mmpadellan tweeted the photograph with the caption, "Anybody ELSE think Spanky's current Twitter meltdown has anything to do with this picture of Melania trump puckering up for Justin Trudeau? Be TERRIBLE if @realDonaldTrump sees it, so whatever you do, don't Retweet #MelaniaLovesTrudeau. DON'T DO IT.😏" Within two days, The tweet received more than 20,000 likes and 12,000 retweets (shown below, right).

Following the post, people began sharing the photo with the hashtag #MelaniaLovesTrudeau. Twitter^[3] user @buddah_uk tweeted, "All the years of having a pensioner's button mushroom being thumbed-in. She definitely wants Trudeau like a hungry alsatian wants a steak." The tweet received more than 1,000 likes and 200 retweets in two days (shown below, left). Twitter^[4] user @LoniLove tweeted, "Melania is ready to risk it all." Within 24 hours, the tweet received more than 1,000 likes and 700 retweets (shown below, center).

Twitter user @DeanObeidallah tweeted,^[5] "Looks like even Melania is thinking of an escape plan to Canada." Within 24 hours, the tweet received more than 3,400 likes and 940 retweets (shown below, right).
