On September 20th, 2017, First Lady Melania Trump gave a speech at a U.N. Luncheon on cyber-bullying. As the speech was covered by most major news outlets, including CNN, many responded to the speech in real-time. Some made comments about the price of the dress coat and the irony of her speech, while others specifically made jokes about the appearance (examples below).
Several media outlets covered the reaction to the dress, including Fox News, PopSugar, The BBC and more.
That day, Twitter user @rosalita2740 juxtaposed a picture of Trump making the speech against a picture of Violet Beauregarde turning into a blueberry from the film Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory.
