About
"Men Get Pegged" is a catchphrase used to mock a Tumblr post arguing that "women are more shallow than men" in the context of physical beauty standards. The post's introductory line "Men get pegged as shallow…" was widely parodied with jokes using the phrase "men get pegged," referencing a sexual practice in which a man is anally penetrated by a woman wearing a strap-on dildo.
Origin
On April 10th, 2016, Tumblr user daydreaming-of-puppies[1] posted an argument that women were hypocritical for criticizing men for having beauty standards. The post read:
Men get pegged as shallow a lot, but in my real life experience, women are more shallow than men.
A lot of the men I’ve talked to don’t care if a woman has some extra weight, or is taller than them, or doesn’t have flawless skin. And even more men prefer women who don’t wear a lot of make up. (Not that I’m saying make up is bad, I love make up.)
I’ve noticed a lot of women, on the other hand, won’t date guys who are shorter than them (that’s a really popular one), or they have some other physical standard they expect.
Yet we ostracize men who have standards and applaud women who do. Those men are shallow while those women are strong independent “don’t need no man” types.
The hypocrisy is pretty amusing, to say the least.
Spread
In the ensuing reblogs, users began mocking about the phrase "men get pegged," with several saying it was the only part they read (shown below). The post generated over 49,000 notes overall.[2]
The jokes about the post led "Men Get Pegged" to become a meme on the site. For example, user Novitate2017 posted a quote from designer Tom Ford saying men should be penetrated once, adding "men get pegged." The post gained over 51,000 notes (shown below, left). User theglowpt2 compared the phrase to Big Dick Energy, saying people would use it incorrectly, gaining over 21,000 notes (shown below, right).
The popularity of the phrase led to the creation of a blog urfavgetspegged,[3] which posted images of characters saying that they got pegged (examples shown below).
