Moid is a genderbent version of the incel slang term foid or femoid, a portmanteau of the words "female android." Use of the term is typically attributed to members of the femcel community. In late 2024, the term "moid" came under renewed scrutiny after unconfirmed rumors of the term appearing in the 2024 Madison, Wisconsin school shooter's purported manifesto spread online, which were later disproven.

Origin

The term "moid" is inspired by the incel slang term "foid," which is a shortened form of "femoid" or "female android." While the term "foid" can be traced back to the year 2017, the term "moid" arose in femcel and radical feminist circles around 2018 and 2019.

The term "moid" was widely used on Reddit's now-banned /r/TrueFemcels^[1] subreddit, as seen in an October 31st, 2018, post scraped by the forum FSTDT^[2] (Fundies Say The Darndest Things). The post read, "The moid can leave you pregnant. The moid can kill you with HIV. The moid can insult our vaginas, our any bodily flaws."

The term "moid" saw increased usage on Twitter / X^[5] in the early 2020s, as seen in a November 12th, 2023, tweet by @Timz_timi that references Nigeria via its telephone code +234.

On May 4th, 2024, X^[6] user @vivalasnarskii warned girls against dating "older moids," writing, "He knows you are a kid that's easier to manipulate and exploit."

Wisconsin Abundant Life Christian School Shooter's Manifesto

In mid-December 2024, the term "moid" came under renewed scrutiny after several internet users shared the Wisconsin Abundant Life Christian school shooter's alleged manifesto as discourse about Natalie "Samantha" Rupnow being a supposed femcel widely spread online.^[9]

For example, on December 16th, 2024, X^[7] user @hayasaka_aryan posted a tweet that read, "She was an actual racist femcel that used 'moid' in her manifesto lmao," gathering over 16,000 likes in a day.

However, later on December 16th, it was revealed that the alleged Discord screenshot that referenced "moid" and the controversial X account Rad Fem Hitler was faked and not part of Rupnow's supposed manifesto.^[10]
