My Stummy Hurt

About

My Stummy Hurt is a lyric by rapper Playboy Carti in his song "Cancun." After the song was released online, fans made parody videos and image macros about the lyric, as well as a video of the rapper rubbing money on his stomach while the lyric plays.

Origin

On July 1st, 2018, Playboy Carti released a snippet of his song "Cancun" in a video showing him and several others in a parking garage. At the end of the video, the rapper rubs money on his stomach while he says "My stummy hurt." The clip gained over 68,000 views on YouTube before removal.

Precursor

Prior to its usage in the Playboi Carti video, the phrase "My Stummy Hurt" first appeared in the Homestar Runner flash game "Stinkoman 20X6," released on March 21st, 2005.^[2]

Spread

The "My stummy hurt" moment quickly became a joke amongst fans. On July 3rd, Twitter user @16below posted a clip isolating the "my stummy hurt" moment of the video, gaining over 8,200 retweets and 16,000 likes (shown below).

A few days later, Souncdloud user Alex Russell posted a clip which looped the lyric for three minutes (shown below). This remix was covered by The Fader.^[1]

Additionally, the lyric grew popular on YouTube. User VersaceBoyEnt also posted a looping clip, gaining over 23,000 views (shown below, left). User Chris Alexander isolated the clip, calling it the "greatest moment in music history, gaining over 16,000 views (shown below, right).

Jokes and image macros about the clip spread online. Twitter user @bestheel posted a Can a Robot Write a Symphony edit that gained over 3,100 retweets and 8,000 likes (shown below, left). @Uzileopard tweeted a joke featuring Carti that gained over 900 retweets and 2,300 likes (shown below, right).
