About
#NationalSendANudeDay, also known as #NationalSendYourManNudesDay, is an unofficial holiday on which people are encouraged to send nude photographs of themselves to their significant others. The hashtag-based holiday has been observed on several different dates in the calendar year, with October 5th being the earliest known designation as the day of its observance. It can be seen as a parody of various unofficial holidays that are oftentimes celebrated on Twitter.
Origin
On October 5th, 2012, Twitter user @Free_Reign_Flyb[10] posted two tweets with the hashtag "#NationalSendANudeDay" (shown below).
Spread
On April 22nd, 2014, @iLikeGirlsDaily tweeted a picture of a woman taking a nude selfie photograph accompanied by the hashtag #NationalSendYourManNudesDay. In the first 24 hours, the tweet gathered over 2,400 retweets and 2,000 favorites.

Within hours of @iLikeGirlsDaily's tweet, #NationalSendYourManNudesDay became a trending hashtag on Twitter, with many users sharing image macros in tongue-in-cheek approval of the concept, while others sought to derail the campaign by incorporating Christian evangelist jokes into the hashtag.

On April 22nd, the social media news blog SocialNewsDaily[1] published an article about the trending Twitter hashtag, which highlighted several notable example tweets. According to the Twitter analytics site Topsy,[2] there were over 180,000 tweets containing the hashtag "NationalSendYourManNudesDay between April 21st and April 23rd.
On May 18th, 2016, Twitter user @Lovee__Valiciaa[8] posted the hashtag "#NationalSendANudeDay (shown below, left). The same day, Twitter user @WanderLustx_o[6] noted that the hashtag had circulated on other days during previous years (shown below, right).
On May 19th, Twitter user @Phil_Lewis_[7] posted a photoshopped picture of a Pomeranian dog exposing itself with the hashtag, garnering upwards of 1,300 likes and 1,100 retweets in less than 24 hours (shown below).
That day, The Daily Dot[3] published an article about the hashtag, noting that there have been "attempts to get #nationalsendanudeday trending in just about every month." Also on May 19th, the social media news blog HashtagNow[4] published an article titled "Fake 'National Send a Nude Day' Hashtag Tricks People Into Sending Naked Selfies." Meanwhile, Mashable[5] highlighted several other notable joke tweets mocking the hashtag (shown below). By mid-day, #NationalSendANudeDay[9] was the top trending topic in the United States with over 136,000 tweets.
