Nice Wig, By The Way refers to a racist webcomic in which a white woman insults a black woman's hair. The comic became an exploitable and inspired yuri fan art depicting the two women as a romantic couple.

Origin

On September 30th, 2024, Twitter / X^[1] user @Noelelepen uploaded a webcomic in which an unnamed black woman character says she's "naturally" more beautiful than white women. A white woman responds to her by saying "nice wig, by the way," as if to insult her for not being "natural." The post received 47 reposts and 444 likes in two weeks (shown below).

The webcomic didn't get much attention until October 6th, 2024, when Twitter / X^[2] user @CheeseheadBrian reposted the webcomic and received over 5,000 reposts and 70,000 likes in one week.

Following the repost, the webcomic grew popular with artists and memers on Twitter / X subverting the comic and depicting the two women in love. For example, on October 9th, 2024, Twitter / X^[3] user @laeswrld recaptioned the text to make the women compliment each other. The post received over 20,000 reposts and 134,000 likes in one week (shown below).

The next day, Twitter / X^[4] user @masoq095 uploaded fan art of the two women kissing each other. The post received over 15,000 reposts and 275,000 likes in one week (shown below).
