The Nose Gap TikTok Trend refers to a series of videos on TikTok where people claim that having a large gap between the nose and the top lip is ugly. In July 2022, a user posted a video saying they were jealous of girls with small "nose gaps," sparking insecurity in some users about their nose gaps and backlash that October calling the idea ridiculous and harmful. The slang term "nose gap" then spread online in late 2022.

Origin

On an unknown date around July 10th, 2022, TikToker @indi_firth posted a selfie video set to the song "Summertime Sadness" by Lana Del Rey captioned, "Jealous of the girls with a small gap between their lip and nose." The video has since been deleted, but was duetted by multiple TikTokers,^[1][2] including @baileyykeegan on July 10th and TikToker @maidesultana on August 17th, garnering over 65,000 and 237,000 views, respectively, in roughly three months (shown below, left and right).

In October 2022, TikTokers started posting videos under the same original sound sharing their confusion about the idea of being jealous of people with small "nose gaps." On October 3rd, 2022, TikToker^[3] @peepeepoopooemily posted a video saying the videos awakened a new insecurity in her, garnering over 300,000 views in a month (shown below, left). On October 4th, TikToker^[4] @111549user posted a video expressing confusion over the trend, garnering over 3.9 million views in a month (shown below, right). In some of the backlash videos, women upturn their lips to touch the bottom of their noses, emulating what it might look like to have no gap.

On October 31st, TikToker^[5] @loveedeluxxe posted a video telling people to touch grass if they believe the nose gap discourse, garnering over 3.5 million views in three days (shown below). On November 3rd, HITC^[6] reported on the trend.

On November 2nd, TikToker^[7] @imsolazylazy posted a video where they photoshop someone to remove their nose gap, criticizing the idea that it looks good, garnering over 1.2 million views in a day (shown below).
