About

Olivia Rodrigo's GUTS Cover Parodies refers to a series of parody art inspired by American actress and musician Olivia Rodrigo's sophomore album GUTS due to its highly exploitable layout of a ripped hole in the middle of the cover. The trend started on Twitter / X in March 2024 in which fans of the singer photoshopped and edited memes, images of themselves and many other types of pictures in the ripped hole in the album's cover art.

Origin

On June 26th, 2023, American singer Olivia Rodrigo[1] revealed the artwork for the cover and the date of her sophomore album GUTS, which was released on September 8th, 2023. The cover (shown below, left) shows Rodrigo biting her fingernail while she is lying on a purple background. The post amassed over 187,000 likes and 55,000 retweets in almost a year.

On March 20th, 2024, the X[2] page @concertleaks posted a version of the album cover with a hole in front of Olivia's face, saying, "You can now make your own GUTS (spilled) cover!" The post also featured a link[3] to a website dedicated to editing the album's cover with any image the person uploads. The post (shown below, right) amassed roughly 3,900 likes and 2,900 retweets in a week.

GUT

Spread

Shortly after the exploitable cover was posted on X / Twitter in late March 2024, several users started to post parodies and edits featuring images of other celebrities and memes inside the ripped hole in the album's cover.

For example, on March 21st, 2024, X[4] user @fxde2blxck added John Cena's face in the album cover (shown below, left), amassing more than 2,500 likes and 50 retweets in a week.

On March 21st, X[5] user @EeShyong added a montage of Taylor Swift holding a handgun inside Rodrigo's album cover (shown below, right), amassing more than 160 likes and three retweets in a week.
