About

Paloma Diamond is a fictional character created by New Zealand comedian Julian Sewell in a comedy skit in which he portrayed “Every Best Actress Award Intro.” Diamond first appeared in April 2023 but became a viral meme on TikTok and Twitter / X in January 2024 as people acted and posted content as if she was a real actress being nominated for an Oscar.

Origin

On April 10th, 2023, New Zealand comedian Julian Sewell posted a skit on TikTok[1] titled “Every Best Actress Award Intro” in which he portrayed some fictional characters' reactions while they were being introduced in an award ceremony. One fictional character in particular, the actress Paloma Diamond, looks fairly confident that she'll win the award. The post (shown below, left) amassed 19 million plays and 3 million likes in a year.

A few days later, Sewell uploaded a new video finishing the skit by revealing who won the award for best actress (shown below, right). Paloma Diamond[2] appears disappointed and angry after being defeated by a newcomer actress, which garnered more than 4 million plays and 714,000 likes in a year.
