Angel Mamii and John Dees are a pair of TikTokers (@angelmamii7 and @johndees) known for a series of comedy sketches. Fans of their videos claim that they appreciate the lack of coherence in the pair's comedy, which the creators have stated that they embrace.

Online History

On September 14th, 2017, John Dees posted his earliest available TikTok video. The post received more than 3,500 views and 700 reactions (shown below, left).

On April 2nd, 2019, Angel Mamii posted her earliest available video, which features lip-syncing to "If You Had My Life" by Jennifer Lopez. The post received more than 12,000 views and 620 reactions in a little over one year (shown below, right).

In March 2019, the pair met at a meetup for TikTok creators.[4]

On September 3rd, 2019, the pair appeared in a video about looking for milk in the supermarket. The post received more than 173,000 reactions, 6,300 shares and 1,600 comments in less than one year (shown below).

On September 19th, 2019, Barstool Sports [1] published the blogpost "Please Help Me Make Sense Of This TikTok Family." In the piece, the author writes, "I’ve been following this family since they went viral about 2 weeks ago and the more I look into their page the more confused I get. I don’t understand the point of any of the videos, I don’t get the transitions or the audio cues, and I really don’t get what accent the mom has."

That day, they published a sketch of the Angel Mammi in an electronics store with the caption "I've been trying to make sense of this tiktok family all week. The accents, the purpose of their videos, how many children they have. Wow, what a ride." The post received more than 67,000 views, 1,100 likes and 100 retweets in less than one year (shown below).

The following week, on September 29th, Twitter user @ifinallythrewup tweeted a video sketch of the Angel Mammi in an electronics store. They captioned the video, "Losing it over the energy in this tik tok rn… not one point was made." The tweet recieved more than 3.4 million views, 119,000 likes and 17,000 retweets in less than one year (shown below).

On October 8th, Barstool Sports published[2] "Is Angelmamii7 Single-handedly Revolutionizing Sketch Comedy?"

Later that month, on October 21st, they published[3] "I Made A Tik Tok With Angel Mammi5 And John Dees And Finally Understand Humor." They included a tweet of the that featured the TikTok they made. The post received more than 218,000 views, 2,200 likes and 100 retweets in less than one year.

Criticism

On November 10th, 2019, Business Insider[4] published a profile on the couple "Behind the rise of TikTok stars Angel Mamii and John Dees, who met through the app 8 months ago and have rewritten the rulebook for viral fame." In the article, Business Insider notes, "The couple is aware that people say their videos don't make sense, and even embraces it." Dees responded to the criticism:

That's what we intentionally do, we intentionally try to make ourselves not make sense in a way. And that's what's been working.
