Jacob Collier is a Grammy-award-winning musician who grew popular with his rearrangements of popular songs on YouTube and later with his original music. He is particularly popular among other musicians on YouTube, who have often remarked upon his incredible talent and ear for composition.

History

Collier was born on August 2nd, 1994 in North London. His earliest extant video on YouTube was posted on December 24th, 2011. It features an original piece and gained over 140,000 views in nearly ten years (shown below, left). Shortly after, he released a rearrangement of Stevie Wonder's "Isn't She Lovely," his first video to crack over 1 million views (it sits at 3.1 million views as of September 2021).

On July 5th, 2016, after amassing a YouTube following and touring, he released his first album, In My Room, which featured a blend of originals and rearranged songs.[1] His A Capella arrangement of the Flinstones theme and his original song "You And I" both earned Grammy awards that year.

As of September 2021, Collier has released 3 albums of his 4-album Djesse project. Djesse Volume 3 was nominated for Album of the Year at the 2021 Grammy Awards.[2]

Online Presence

Collier has amassed a passionate fanbase on social media, particularly among other music-themed creators and YouTube channels. On June 1st, 2020, Charles Cornell delved into why musicians love Collier in a video that gained over 1.5 million views (shown below, left). On June 18th, 2021, John Henry Vocal Studio posted a reaction Collier's arrangement of "Moon River," gaining over 120,000 views (shown below, right).


In addition to Collier's 888,000 YouTube subscribers,[3] a subreddit dedicated to him, /r/JacobCollier[4] has 8,000 followers. He also has over 1.1 million montly listeners on Spotify. [5]
