About

The Poopshitters is an ironic virtual meme band made up of five low-resolution copies of Sans from Undertale self-described as an "American Post-punk Nu metal Hip-hop" act. Their songs are mainly remixes of Undertale and other popular meme songs made to sound tinny and low quality, as well as jazz sections. The Poopshitters' fictional narrative claims they started making music in the 1990s. They have produced 10 albums, with an 11th in production being released track-by-track on YouTube.

History

On November 16th, 2019, The Poopshitters uploaded their first song "The First Drop" to YouTube,[1] gaining over 84,000 views in two years (shown below). The song consists of 51 seconds of a low-quality jazz section. The thumbnail shows a low-quality image of five copies of Sans with a glowing blue eye standing under text reading "THE POOPSHITTERS." The Poopshitters have a Twitter[3] account @thepoopshitters.

The band dropped their entire first album over the course of the 16th and 17th, simply titled "Album 1," consisting of 10 tracks. The second track (shown below, left) features samples from Megalovania. The YouTube description of each song gives a fictional backstory to it, such as on song three (shown below, right) which reads, "this masterpiece was released in late 1999 and was played all around the world on radios during thanksgiving, as we all should be thankful for the existance of the poopshitters."

"Album 2," consisting of 10 more tracks, was uploaded to The Poopshitters YouTube channel between November 17th and November 25th. On November 25th, The Poopshitters announced they would be playing a live show in "Pooptown, California" that night and upload live footage minutes after it ended (shown below, left). That day the channel uploaded an animated video of five Sans' playing instruments on stage, gaining over 25,000 views in two years (shown below, right).

Between November 25th, 2019, and June 14th, 2020, "Album 3" was released song-by-song on the channel. The group released 10 albums by 2021, each with 10 songs. The Poopshitters released the first song off "Album 11" on October 6th, 2021, gaining over 17,000 views in three weeks (shown below).
