About

The Wonderland System or wonderland__wonderland__ is a TikToker who claims to have dissociative identity disorder (DID) and at least 271 different identities or alters, some non-human. They became the subject of criticism, jokes and doubt starting in December 2021 after revealing the number of alters they have, some doubting the TikToker's DID diagnosis altogether due to how rare DID is and how many TikTokers claim to have it. A "system" in this context refers to the system of identities living inside the TikToker's body.

TikTokers Faking Disorders

Some TikTokers who claim to suffer from mental and physical health disorders have been accused of faking it for clout. Some of the most commonly faked disorders are DID, ADHD and Tourettes (compilation shown below). Many TikTokers who claim to have DID refer to their separate identities as their "system."[1]

The Wonderland System

The Wonderland System[3] started to become well-known on TikTok in early 2021, often becoming the subject of criticism for their claims about DID. They became the subject of viral discussion after posting a TikTok on December 29th, 2021 answering a Q&A submission asking how many alters they have. In the video, Wonderland System reveals that they did an "alter count" and they estimate they have 271 alters, but need to "ask a gatekeeper or something" for the most accurate answer. The account is now private, but YouTuber[2] Papa Gut posted a video reacting to Wonderland System on January 7th, 2022 showing the clip (shown below). In the video, they go by "Lana" but their name and gender identity depend on the present alter.

Videos from the Wonderland System's back catalog, as well as new uploads, became the increased subject of similar criticism, many showing the TikToker introducing and discussing their alters including names like Bunny and Ethan. In one video, they show a "map" of their inner world (shown below).

A September 2021 reupload shows the Wonderland System introducing a number of their alters, including Bunny, Z (an alter with a stutter), Oliver (a British alter), Ben (an alter with Tourettes), Elliot and AJ (another alter with a stutter) (shown below). The video gained over 8.5 million views in four months.

Criticisms

The Wonderland System's followers began calling the TikToker out in comments, claiming they're lying about their DID and number of alters, leading the TikToker to turn off their comments. In early January 2022 TikTokers started going viral with videos calling out the TikToker, as well as how they turned off the comments, saying faking DID hurts the whole DID community (examples shown below, left and right).

The Wonderland System's Response

In a video reuploaded to TikTok on January 7th, 2022, (shown below), likely uploaded by the Wonderland System around the same date, they respond to criticism as the alter Ethan, saying they don't really care and that the jokes aren't funny, just ableist. They claim their symptoms are common and that the use of the term "lore" to describe their videos is "disgusting." They then go on to describe how DID comes from severe childhood trauma and answer to their critics' main points, including doubting they have non-human alters, saying "children will create anything" to deal with trauma.
