TikTok Willy Wonka or DukeDepp is a TikToker who cosplays Willy Wonka from the 2005 Tim Burtin film Charlie and the Chocolate Factory originally played by Johnny Depp. The influencer first began posting to TikTok in May 2020 and accumulated over three million followers in three months. In August Twitter users began posting images of TikTok Willy Wonka and commenting about their attraction to the character.

Online History

On May 3rd, 2020, TikToker willywonkatiktok uploaded his first video in costume reciting lines from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (shown below, left). The video garnered over 42,400 likes in three months. On June 3rd, willywonkatiktok uploaded a Vibe dance video that accumulated over 1.8 million likes in two months (shown below, right).

On July 8th, willywonkatiktok posted a POV video captioned, "Pov: Your mind wanders while on Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory tour " (shown below, left) The video gained over 1.5 million likes in a month. On July 9th, willywonkatiktok participated in the fold challenge and garnered over 646,300 likes in two days (shown below, right).

That day, the influencer took to Twitter^[1] to say, "Did Tiktok make me the 'hype boy of the month' or something? Growing so fast rn" in a tweet that accumulated over 1,100 likes in two days.

Reputation

On August 9th, 2020, Twitter user @rhaeberry^[5] posted images of TikTok Willy Wonka captioned, "i’m sorry to everyone this offends but yes i’m love with the willy wonka guy on tik tok" which received over 2,700 likes in a day (shown below, left). The next day, Twitter user @ONLYERODA^[6] made a similar post that gained over 500 likes in a day (shown below, right).

That day, Willy Wonka began trending on Twitter. Twitter user @rkivemind captioned on of TikTok Willy Wonka's videos "Pov: you're oompa loompa and Willy Wonka is performing a strip tease for you" (shown below) the video garnered over 120,200 views, and 2,400 likes in a day. As of August 10th, the influencer has over 3.9 million followers on TikTok,^[2] 113,000 subscribers on YouTube^[3] and 6,500 followers on Twitter.^[4]

Personal Life

In 2000, Duke was born in Utah and has an older sister named Kaestle. As of August 2020, the influencer is a wedding photographer.^[7] On July 7th, 2020, Willy Wonka Tiktok / Duke Depp uploaded a YouTube video out of cosplay with his sister and described the beginning of his social media notoriety (shown below). The video has accumulated over 5,100 likes in a month.
