Please Play Some ABBA is an exploitable template showing a woman pressing her phone up to a DJ booth with a message requesting the DJ play a certain song or artist. After the original image of a woman requesting ABBA spread online, social media users replaced "ABBA" with various, more humorous selections.
Origin
On July 25th, 2021, Twitter user @DJCEEB_[1] posted two pictures of women requesting ABBA while he was DJ-ing. The tweet gained over 4,400 retweets and 40,000 likes (shown below, left). The second picture he uploaded featuring a woman's phone reading "PLEASE PLAY SOME ABBA" would go on to be used in various exploitable variations (shown below, right).
Spread
Parodies of the image began spreading a week after the original post. On August 2nd, 2021, Tumblr user alexandriaocasiocortez[2] posted a variation featuring the woman asking for Bjork, gaining over 4,000 notes (shown below, left). This was later reposted to Twitter by user @thereaalkimj,[3] leading to the spread of variations on the platform. For example, user @ameliajg02[4] posted an example using Bach (shown below, right).
