About

Please Stop Saying Dumbass Things refers to an audio clip of a female voice saying "please stop saying dumbass things you're not even making sense" while a male voice describes King Bach's comically large spoon Vine. The clip started to see use in voiced-over image macros in mid-2020, associated with new images for comedic effect. The meme is similar to the Babe Please Stop format and often uses the same imagery in later examples.

Origin

On June 28th, Twitter[4] account @Yu_Investigates posted a voiced over meme where an anime woman pleads with a man "please stop saying dumbass things you're not even making sense" as he describes King Bach's comically large spoon Vine. (shown below).

Prior to July 1st, 2020, Instagram meme pages asmrbuttcheekclaps, robloxmemepage and harpycarp collaborated on a meme using the same voiceover, only towards Jesse Pinkman. The video was reuploaded to YouTube on July 1st, but appears to have been removed from its original source on Instagram. This is likely the original, as asmrbuttcheekclaps Instagram[1] (private) bio reads "I used to do voiceovers."

Spread

The voiceover clip became a popular exploitable over the following year, applied to new images. For example, on August 6th, Instagram[2] page whomstd.v1_ posted a version using images of Peach and Luigi, gaining over 21,000 views in a year (shown below, left). On December 30th, Instagram[3] page grandmas.butt posted a version using Sonic characters, gaining over 185,000 views in a year (shown below, right).

On March 18th, 2021, the Instagram page pampam.mp4 posted a version using The Talking Heads' Once In A Lifetime gaining over 344,000 views in nine months (shown below).
