Related Explainer: What Is 'Project Blue Beam'? Serge Monast's Conspiracy Theory About The Government Orchestrating Fake Alien Invasion Explained

About

"Project Blue Beam" is a conspiracy theory proposed by Québécois conspiracy theorist Serge Monast in the 1990s. It claims NASA and the UN plan to stage a fake alien invasion or religious event using holograms to establish a new world order. Its 2024 resurgence ties to increased public interest in UFOs and aliens, as seen in the 2023 UFO Whistleblower Report, and the unidentified aircraft shot down in Alaska in 2023.

Origin

Canadian Québécois conspiracy theorist Serge Monast first coined and propogated his "Project Blue Beam" conspiracy theory in his 1994 book Project Blue Beam (NASA). The book detailed belief that NASA, alongside the United Nations, plans to create a new global totalitarian regime by technologically simulatingan extraterrestrial encounter. "Project Blue Beam" is a visual representation of what this messianic symbol could look like, i.e. a blue beam coming from the sky as though from a space ship.[1]

In the 2010s, the phrase "Project Blue Beam" came to be used as a buzzword to peddle similar conspiracy theories about governments faking a space invasion to consolidate global power. Several YouTube videos addressing the conspiracy theory cited Serge Monast directly, as seen in a November 7th, 2007 YouTube[2] video by REQUIEMETERNAM, captioned, "ILLUMINATI The Blue Beam Project Top Secret 1." The video gathered over 300,000 views in 17 years.

On April 14th, 2009, YouTuber[3] AutoActionCam posted a similar video, detailing several NASA and military-related press conferences and released from U.S. officials, and piecing together a theory that implies that these institutions plan to come together and creature a rapture hoax.

A February 26th, 2013 Reddit[4] post to /r/todayilearned by /u/doc_daneeka alleged that the CIA once proposed a solution to remove Fidel Castro from power in Cuba; "spread rumours that he was the Antichrist, then fake the second coming; a US submarine would project an image of Jesus on some clouds near Havana while firing star-shells. A loudspeaker would be the voice of Jesus, urging them to renounce communism." The post gathered over 2,000 points in ten years.

The linked article cited a November 20, 1975 document[5] titled "Alleged Assassination Plots Involving Foreign Leaders," written by former CIA Assistant Deputy Director for National Intelligence Programs, Thomas A. Parrott. The document reportedly recounted how Major General Edward Geary Lansdale proposed the aforementioned Castro scheme.

Contained within the pages of a November 20, 1975 document titled Alleged Assassination Plots Involving Foreign Leaders, Interim Report of the Select Committee to Study Government Operations with Respect to Intelligence Activities, is a fascinating statement from one Thomas A. Parrott, who served with the CIA for twenty-four years, and who held the prestigious position of Assistant Deputy Director for National Intelligence Programs. Commenting on some of Lansdale's more bizarre operations that were prompted by religion, ancient mythology, and legend, Parrott noted to the committee: "I'll give you one example of Lansdale's perspicacity. He had a wonderful plan for getting rid of [Fidel] Castro. This plan consisted of spreading the word that the Second Coming of Christ was imminent and that Christ was against Castro who was anti-Christ. And you would spread this word around Cuba, and then on whatever date it was, that there would be a manifestation of this thing. And at the time - this was absolutely true - and at the time just over the horizon there would be an American submarine that would surface off of Cuba and send up some star-shells. And this would be the manifestation of the Second Coming and Castro would be overthrown."
