Origin

On September 25th, 2020, TikToker pao_family[1] uploaded a video of herself scooping her dog Pao two kibbles from a container and pouring them into his bowl (shown below). The dog looks at the bowl with disappointment, then up at his owner, expecting more food. The video garnered over 22.8 million views and 4.3 million likes in 19 days.

The challenge quickly caught on, with many TikTok users attempting it over the next few weeks. On September 29th, TikToker torihinojosa1[2] uploaded a version of the challenge that ends with her dog flipping its bowl, garnering over 3.8 million views in 15 days (shown below, left). On October 7th, itsasmallterworld[3] uploaded a version of the challenge, garnering over 14.9 million views and 1.4 million likes in 1 week (shown below, right).
