About
Que Mecanismo refers to a reaction image of the Brazilian actress Alinne Moraes with the Portuguese caption "que mecanismo," an expression used when someone does something clever or sophisticated. The meme became popular in October 2020 on Twitter and Facebook.
Origin
Although the exact date of the creation of the meme is unclear, the image was created around June 2020 on the entertainment forum Pandlr.[1] The image was created after a scene of the Brazilian actress Alinne Moraes, who plays a villain character in the 2008 telenovela Duas Caras (seen below).
One of the earliest posts available using the image of the Brazilian actress Alinne Moraes was posted on August 11th, 2020, by Twitter[2] user @anthunesarth in which he was commenting on President Joe Biden's possible 2024 re-election strategy by choosing Kamala Harris to be the next candidate for the presidency of the USA. The meme is used to express the cleverness in Biden's decision to announce Kamala as Vice-President since he cannot be re-elected due to his advanced age. The post received 85 likes and 5 retweets in three years (seen below).
Spread
The meme became a common reaction image on Twitter,[3] used to describe complicated and elaborate situations. For instance, on March 20th, 2022, Twitter user @0800FABI tweeted about the day she sabotaged herself into not buying a piece of clothing. The post (seen below) garnered 1,351 likes and 43 retweets in one year.
Another example, posted on Facebook[4] by @pleasecometobr on November 7th, 2022, uses the image to point out a coincidence involving the death of a Brazilian actor, who died from a heart attack and had starred in a telenovela called Heart Exploding in 1995. The post (seen below) garnered 12,000 likes and 2,300 retweets in six months.
