Rosalía Chewing Gum is a viral video of Spanish singer and songwriter Rosalía walking on stage and chewing gum when performing the song "Bizcochito" during a 2022 concert. After being posted to Twitter in July that year, the video was captioned in memes multiple times, earning millions of views simultaneously as it sparked discussions on social media.

Origin

On July 9th, 2022, Twitter[1] user latatarosalia tweeted a video of musician Rosalía performing her song "Bizcochito," captioning it, "lo que la quiero," which translates from Spanish to English, "what i love her." Over the course of four days, the tweet received roughly 1,200 likes and the video received roughly 13.2 million views (shown below).

On the same day that the video was uploaded, July 9th, 2022, Twitter[2] user Torikellysweave posted a tweet that captioned it, "She’s looks like a yassified version of Jesus," in reference to the Yassification trend. Over the course of five days, the tweet received roughly 18,800 likes (shown below).

More creators gave captions for the video in multiple viral tweets posted in mid-July 2022. For instance, on July 11th, 2022, Twitter[3] user helloryry captioned it, "this sounds like music that plays when a cartoon rat is scurrying around 😭😭😭," in a tweet that received roughly 54,900 likes in three days (shown below).

The video's use in memes also stayed close to Spanish-speaking internet circles. For instance, on July 11th, 2022, Twitter[4] user BellesRaul captioned it, "profesores: no se puede comer chicle en clase / la repetidora:" which translates in English to, "teachers: you can't eat gum in class / the repeater:" Over the course of three days, the tweet received roughly 44,100 likes (shown below).

Other videos of Rosalía chewing gum on stage went viral on TikTok. For instance, on July 10th, 2022, TikToker[5] rosa.mamiii posted a video that earned roughly 12.8 million plays and 1.5 million likes in four days (shown below, left). On July 12th, 2022, TikToker[6] findnewmusichva captioned the video with a joke about being asked for gum in grade school, earning roughly 167,100 plays and 23,200 likes in two days (shown below, right).

Chewing Gum Stare With A Cow

On August 8th, 2022, the tiktoker @sofi.lesta posted a video staring at a cow while doing the Rosália chewing gum stare, which received 22 million views in two days on the platform. The video was also shared across other social medias.

After the viral video with the animal, other creators started to post content of cows chewing with Rosália's song 'Bizcochito' as the soundtrack.

Rosalia Challenge

In August 2022, the Rosalia Challenge became popular on TikTok, with users mimicking her stance and facial expressions as she chews gum. On July 21st, 2022, TikToker[7] @Vicmram posted a video mimicking Rosalia's iconic chewing gum stance, gathering over 5 million plays and over 900,000 likes in over a month (seen below).

On August 14th, TikToker[8] @TwistedPennywise posted a video of them chewing gum while dressed as Pennywise with a caption that read, "Purrr 🤡🎈#rosalia #rosaliachallenge." The upload gathered over 1.8 million plays and 500,000 likes in nearly two weeks (seen below).

On August 24th, TikToker[9] @samkhfit posted a video mimicking Rosalia. The video contained a text overlay that read, "Doing the Rosalia Challenge on my Indian mom," and gathered over 8.8 million plays and 1 million likes in nearly five days (seen below, left). The trend quickly took off, with several creators doing the challenge in front of their friends and family, including TikToker[10] @therealirissalas, who posted a video doing the challenge with her daughter on August 26th, 2022. The video gathered over 17,000 likes and over a 100,000 views in nearly three days (see below, right).
