Racist Mario is the name of a viral YouTube animation featuring the video game character Mario violently eliminating other video game characters during a Mario Kart race.

Origin

On August 5th, 2014, YouTuber Flashgitz uploaded the "Racist Mario" video YouTube, in which Mario enacts revenge on various other video game characters, viciously murdering them during the race (shown below). Over the next three years, the video received upwards of 129 million views and 45,700 comments.

Spread

On September 9th, 2014, YouTuber Ratchet Noblewolf uploaded footage of himself reacting to the "Racist Mario" video, which gathered more than 548,000 views and 400 comments over the next several years (shown below, left). On January 22nd, 2015, The Fine Brothers uploaded a video of popular YouTubers reacting to the video, garnering upwards of 19.4 million views and 13,000 comments within three years (shown below, right).

On February 14th, YouTuber BlastphamousHD Gaming posted a reaction to the video (shown below, left). On May 18th, the Girls Play YouTube channel released a video of several women reacting to the video.[5] Within three years, the videos gained over 1.3 million and 2.8 million views respectively. On September 28th, 2016, YouTuber General Alpaca uploaded a Nutshack remix of the original video (shown below, right).
